TURTLE ISLAND

This 12-inch round, 3-inch high pine needle basket features a turtle design created with black artificial sinew wrapped through the coils. The turtle represents Turtle Island, a name used by many Indigenous Peoples for North America, and symbolizes creation, stability, and responsibility to the land.

This piece was made to honor the connection between Indigenous Peoples and the earth, and the teachings of respect, balance, and care for all living things.
