MMIW
This 10-inch round pine needle basket was created as a tribute to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). Its wooden base was hand wood-burned, featuring the silhouette of an Indigenous woman with a hand over her mouth, a powerful symbol of silenced voices and lives taken too soon.
Coiled with natural pine needles and stitched in red artificial sinew, every element was chosen with intention. The red thread represents both loss and strength, while the basket itself reflects resilience, protection, and care. This piece was made to honor Indigenous women, raise awareness, and keep their stories seen and remembered.
